Sweet Braided Bread

  1. In a large bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water. Add yeast and let proof for 5 minutes.
  2. Add canola oil, egg, and salt to the mixture. Begin adding flour.
  3. Once a dough forms, remove from bowl and knead for 5 minutes on a lightly floured surface.
  4. Form dough into a smooth ball. Place dough a large bowl and cover with a towel/plastic wrap.
  5. Allow dough to rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  6. Once doubled in size, punch down the dough and knead it for 5 minutes.
  7. Divide dough into 3 equal portions. Form each portion into a long log
  8. Cut each log into 3 equal potions.
  9. Braid all three logs and pinch the end pieces together, tucking them under the roll.
  10. Place the braids onto a baking pan lined with parchment paper.Preheat oven to 350F.
  11. Beat egg and brush the mixture onto the braids.
  12. Combine sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle this onto the braids.
  13. Bake braids for 30-35 minutes, until the outside is golden brown. Let cool.
